US surge: ‘We risk failure of our healthcare system’

The number of reported infections in the US has now surpassed 2.5 million. Over 125,000 Covid-19 patients are confirmed to have died nationwide – more than in any other country. A surge in cases is particularly acute in several southern and western states. One of those is Arizona where twice as many people are being admitted to hospital with Covid-19 symptoms now, compared to the start of the month. And that’s putting a huge strain on medical resources and the staff.

Bradley Dreifuss is an ER doctor in Tucson and he’s been talking about the pressures he and his colleagues are under.
